George Miller returns to the Mad Max universe once again, and he’s taking a familiar road with the release of Furiosa.
World of Reel revealed today that Miller and Warner Bros. will look to take the Mad Max: Fury Road spin-off to the Cannes Film Festival, just as it did Fury Road nine years ago. Variety later confirmed the story.
The Cannes chief, Thierry Fremaux, tells Variety, “We kept an extraordinary memory of the world premiere of Fury Road at Cannes. It would be wonderful to welcome them again with Furiosa, especially since George Miller was a marvelous jury president in 2016. I know he’s working on the film, and I hope it will be at Cannes.”
Taking on the role of Furiosa will be Anya Taylor-Joy, joined by Chris Hemsworth in a villainous role and Tom Burke in an unspecified part.
“As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel presided over by the Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.”
