It’s official: the next Thor film will not have Taika Waititi at the helm. The filmmaker confirms as much in a new interview and talks about his connection with the MCU.
During a conversation with Business Insider, the Thor: Ragnarok and Thor: Love and Thunder director was asked about the rumors that Thor 5 is in development, but Marvel was not looking to bring him back.
“I wouldn’t know if that’s accurate,” Waititi said as he addressed the rumors. “I know that I won’t be involved… I’m going to concentrate on these other films that I’ve signed on for.”
As for those other projects, Waititi says of his Star Wars film: “It’s still marinating. I’ve been writing it.”
The filmmaker is also tackling a big-screen adaptation of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s graphic novel The Incal and an adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel Klara and the Sun.
“So that’s six, seven years gone,” Waitit said, looking at his current slate. “I’d imagine another Thor would be a lot sooner than that…But I love Marvel; I love working with them. I love Chris.”
“I would never feel like they are cheating on me,” Waititi added. “We’re in an open relationship, and it’s like if they want to see other people, I’m happy for that. I’d still get back into bed with them one day.”
Waititi is promoting his long-delayed sports film, Next Goal Wins. Check out our review here.
