These days, James Gunn is highly vocal about the production of Superman: Legacy, so the fact he didn’t confirm Lex Luthor until this very week is quite shocking.
But now we have that official news, with the filmmaker finally making it official Nicholas Hoult will play the iconic DC villain in a new social media post.
Along with a new picture, Gunn took to Instagram and promised that he and Hoult would bring forth a Lex Luthor, unlike anything we’ve seen in film or television before. Check out the post below…

The official synopsis for Superman: Legacy states that the film “tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.”
Superman: Legacy stars David Corenswet as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern/Guy Gardner, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and María Gabriela De Faría as The Engineer.
Superman: Legacy is scheduled to open in theaters on July 11th, 2025.
