Although Marvel has pushed back its entire release slate save for the-as yet-untitled Deadpool 3 out of 2024, the studio won’t be slowing down on the production side of things, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Wyatt Russell has confirmed that he’ll be suiting up again as John Walker, a.ka. U.S. Agent, this spring as production gets underway on Thunderbolts.
“There’s so much to play with John, and there’s so much more to do with John,” Russell told THR during a promotional interview for his current Apple TV+ MonsterVerse series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. “I’m so lucky to get to work with the kind of talent that I’m going to work with when Thunderbolts starts up in March or April. It just feels like we’re going for something that has depth and something interesting to theorize about beyond just flying around and doing superhero stuff.”
Thunderbolts is being directed by Jake Schreier (Beef) and will see Russell’s John Walker teaming up with fellow villains/antiheroes Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian (David Harbour) Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko), and Ava Starr/Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) for Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Plot details for Thunderbolts is being kept under wraps, but we do know that Harrison Ford will feature as Thaddeus ‘Thunderbolt’ Ross, who will make his second appearance in the role following his debut in Captain America: Brave New World. Whether Ross’ Red Hulk will factor into proceedings, we shall have to wait and see…
Thunderbolts is set for release on July 25th 2025.
