If you know the dynamic duo of Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler, you know we are in for a treat with this new story.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the story that the Fruitvale Station & Creed pair will reteam for a mysterious new film produced by Coogler’s Proximity Media.
THR notes that this marks the first spec script from Coogler through his production company, Proximity Media, and only his second following 2013’s indie hit Fruitvale Station. It’s reportedly based on an “original idea from Coogler.”
Very little is known of the still-untitled film, but it’s being described as a ‘genre’ feature and could be a period piece element to it. The Hollywood Reporter does note that “Coogler’s camp had no comment.” Still, the mysterious nature of the project has worked, with THR noting that executives and buyers travelled to the Beverly Hills offices of WME to get a few details about what the pair are cooking up.
This marks the first original film from Coolger since his time at Marvel Studios, where he helmed the massively successful Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. As for Michael B. Jordan, he’s coming off his directorial debut, Creed III, in which he also starred.
The outlet notes that phase two of the project begins soon, with “interested parties meeting with the filmmaker to hear him lay out his vision.”
