Scream 7 is shaping up to be a classic slasher reunion. Not only is Neve Campbell already returning as the iconic Sydney Prescott, and longtime franchise writer Kevin Williamson is finally stepping into the director’s chair, but it looks like Courteney Cox wants another round against Ghostface.
Variety reports that Cox has entered negotiations to appear in the seventh installment of the slasher franchise. After such a rocky pre-production, little is known about the project or its direction.
When Campbell’s return was confirmed, the director spoke about it via social media, with Williamson writing on Instagram, “It’s been nearly 30 years since my very first script, Scream, was directed by the legendary Wes Craven. I never would have predicted what it would become. Or that I would be directing the seventh installment of the franchise. I am overcome with gratitude and excitement, and I can’t wait to take this journey with Neve and the entire Scream family as we bring back Sidney Prescott in the next chapter of the Scream franchise. Thank you to all the Scream fans. You are the gift that keeps giving.”
Courteney Cox is the only actress to appear in all Scream films. David Arquette’s Dewey was killed off in the fifth installment, and Campbell had the infamous pay dispute that kept Sydney away, so neither appeared in Scream VI. Cox played a small role in the 2023 film and was an executive producer.
The road to Scream 7 has been rockier than expected. Last year, Spyglass fired star Melissa Barrera over social media posts, and co-star Jenna Ortega soon dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Soon after, original director Christopher Landon dropped out, and Kevin Williamson stepped into helm his second-ever film.
