Let’s get a little freaky with a new follow-up to Freaky Friday. The sequel to the hit 2003 film has been in development for quite some time, but once the returning Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan officially signed on, things began to fall into place.
THR is reporting that the film finally has a director: Welcome to Chippendales director Nisha Ganatra. The filmmaker is best known for helming episodes of the Hulu series and two female-focused films, Late Night and The High Note. The project reportedly has an early script draft from Elyse Hollander.
Getting Freaky Friday 2 off the ground took some time, with Academy Award-winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis admitting she’d written to Disney about the possibility of returning. Co-star Lindsey Lohan also took some time away from Hollywood but has recently begun appearing in new films, including a cameo in the Mean Girls musical and her own Netflix rom-com Irish Wish.
Freaky Friday, the 2003 Disney remake of the 1976 film starring Jodie Foster, made $160 million at the worldwide box office and has become a mainstay of the family viewing schedule throughout the intervening years.
