Netflix announced season four of The Witcher has begun production, but that is not all. The streaming giant also revealed the fantasy series has been renewed for a fifth and final season.
Netflix shared over their Twitter/X account a video of the cast – including Liam Hemsworth who takes over Henry Cavill’s role as Geralt of Rivia after he departed the series prior to the third season’s premiere – coming together for the first table read of the fourth season. The post broke the news it would be the series’ penultimate season with season four and five adapting the final three books of Andrzej Sapkowski’s epic fantasy series, Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow and Lady of the Lake.
“It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia,” creator and showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich told Netflix. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”

Hemsworth joins a cast that includes Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan and Joey Batey as Geralt’s allies Yennefer, Ciri and Jaskier respectively. The synopsis for the upcoming season reads:
After the shocking, Continent-altering events that close out Season 3, the new season follows Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri, who are separated and traversing the war-ravaged Continent and its many demons. If they can embrace and lead the groups of misfits they find themselves in, they have a chance of surviving the baptism of fire — and finding one another again.
The fourth season has added The Matrix icon Laurence Fishburne to the cast as as Regis, a world-wise barber-surgeon with a mysterious past. Also starring in the new season will be Sharlto Copley (District 9) as the infamous bounty hunter Leo Bonhart, James Purefoy (The Following) as Skellen, Emperor Emhyr var Emreis’ court advisor and high-ranking spy, and Danny Woodburn (Watchmen) as Zoltan, the fan-favorite dwarf from the books and games.
