Having retained top spot at the U.S. box office this past weekend with a whopping $77 million (more than five times that of its nearest rival, the Reese Witherspoon/Sofia Vergara buddy comedy Hot Pursuit), Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is now closing in on the $900 million mark worldwide.
Having banked $312.6 million domestically and $562.4 from international markets, the eleventh instalment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently sitting on $875 million around the globe and will become the third MCU movie to hit a billion this week, with the film set to open in China tomorrow. However, it will face some new competition, with Warner Bros. set to unleash Mad Max: Fury Road to cinemas around the world this Friday.
Avengers: Age of Ultron is currently the second-highest grossing movie of the year behind Fast & Furious 7, which has pulled in a hefty $1.466 billion so far, making it the fourth-biggest film of all time.
