It looks like Robert De Niro’s long-gestating drama The Comedian is finally moving forward, with Deadline reporting that Mike Newell (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Donnie Brasco) signing on to direct.
The film will see De Niro playing an accomplished insult comic, and has been penned by Art Linson (What Just Happened?), with stand-up material from Jeffrey Ross. Production is expected to get underway in November in New York.
De Niro will next be seen alongside Anne Hathaway in The Intern, while he also has Hands of Stone, Bus 658, Joy and Dirty Grandpa all on the horizon.
