POSSIBLE SPOILERS: Daisy Ridley hints at Rey’s parentage in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

June 11, 2015 by Gavin Logan

Since the Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast was first announced last April there has literally been thousands of rumours about who is playing who, and maybe even more importantly who is connected to who. Even after we got our first character name drops Star Wars fans still didn’t seemed satisfied and speculation continued to spread that some of these characters aren’t who they say they are.

With The Force Awakens only six months away and two trailers having already been released we still don’t really know an awful lot about our main characters.

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

During an event in Japan Daisy Ridley may have let slip an important piece of information about who her character really is and who her parents are.

This is your final SPOILER WARNING!!!

When asked specifically about certain rumours that have popped up online about her parentage Ridley had this to say:

“I’m not sure how much I can say. I guess because I’ve said that I’m solitary, and that’s how I begin, that is probably a big clue as to what…it is.”

Ridley was being interviewed alongside President of LucasFilm Kathleen Kennedy, who was nervously laughing throughout her attempt to answer. Ridley herself seemed very hesitant to speak and towards the end realised she may have said too much. You can check out the audio clip on the Star Wars Report podcast.

Did you get what she was hinting at?

Ridley will play a character simply known as Rey who is said to be a scavenger on the planet Jakku before meeting Finn (John Boyega) and ultimately setting the movie off in another direction. Since her casting was announced she has been heavily compared to Carrie Fisher and Natalie Portman in looks suggesting that she may be apart of the Skywalker family. Her slip hints at that but suggests something slightly different. In her comment she calls Rey “solitary” and says that “that is probably a big clue as to what [her character] is.” Surely this suggest Solo?

Lots of early reports were claiming that she would be playing a character called Kira Solo, the daughter of Han and Leia but nothing had ever been confirmed. Is this even a confirmation? To call it so would be jumping ahead of ourselves but having the actress herself say it does suggest that it isn’t just a rumour anymore.

Thoughts?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set for release on December 18th and sees J.J. Abrams directing returning stars Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Kenny Baker (R2-D2) and Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) in addition to Adam Driver (Girls), Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year), Andy Serkis (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina), John Boyega (Attack the Block), Daisy Ridley (Silent Witness), Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave), Miltos Yerolemou (Game of Thrones), Max von Sydow (The Exorcist), Jessica Henwick (Spirit Warriors), Christina Chong (24: Live Another Day) and newcomers Crystal Clarke and Pip Andersen.
