According to Showbiz 411, the 1990 Ivan Reitman / Arnold Schwarzenegger comedy Kindergarten Cop is set for the remake treatment courtesy of Universal’s 1440 division, with the site reporting that a straight-to-VOD release is on the cards, with a view to spinning it off into a TV series.
According to the site, the new film will follow “a leading man type with an Indian sidekick named Sanjit. They’re on the trail of a missing flash drive from the Federal Witness protection program. Somehow it’s wound up in a kindergarten class. Flimsy premise, but it puts him side by side with a beautiful teacher and they hit it off. There’s also bad guys involved– this time they’re Albanian.”
Michael Don Paul (The Island) is set to direct the film from a script by David H. Steinberg (American Pie).
The original Kindergarten Cop marked Schwarzenegger’s second collaboration with director Ivan Reitman after 1988’s Twins, and was a box office success, grossing over $200 million worldwide.
