Having previously passed through the hands of Jon M. Chu (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) and – most recently – David S. Goyer (Blade: Trinity), Sony has now found a pair of replacements to take the reins of the studio’s long-planned Masters of the Universe movie.
According to Variety, Aaron Nee and Adam Nee are set to direct the movie, which is based upon the classic Mattel toy line and 80s animated series. The duo previously directed the acclaimed 2015 thriller Band of Robbers, and Masters of the Universe is set to mark their big budget debut.
The script for Masters of the Universe has been penned by Goyer, who remains involved as an executive producer but was forced to vacate the director’s chair due to scheduling commitments.
The property was previously adapted as a live-action movie back in 1987, with Dolph Lundgren taking on the role of He-Man and Frank Langella as his nemesis Skeletor.
Masters of the Universe is set for release on December 18th 2019, so hopefully it’ll be plain sailing for the project from here on out.
