Fresh from his Oscar win for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, actor Sam Rockwell has become the latest addition to the cast of Jojo Rabbit, the new film from Hunt for the Wilderpeople and Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi.
Taking place during World War II, the film follows a ten-year-old German boy who is struggling to understand his place in the fascist Nazi regime. Resorting to an imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler, for advice and guidance, the boy discovers that his mother is hiding a young Jewish girl and tries to find ways to get rid of her, only to begin to see her as human.
Rockwell is set to play a Nazi captain of a Hitler Youth camp, while Johansson portrays the boy’s mother and Waititi is the imaginary Hitler.
Filming on Jojo Rabbit is set to get underway this spring, with Waititi also writing and producing in addition to his directing and acting duties.
