In May of last year it was announced that destroyer of worlds Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, 2012) will be directing the World War II movie Midway, and now comes word from Deadline that Woody Harrelson (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Mandy Moore (47 Meters Down) are in talks to join the film.
Midway will feature an ensemble cast, and explores the events of the Battle of Midway in June 1942, which marked a turning point for the United States in the Pacific theater. The film will focus on the soldiers and aviators responsible for securing a decisive victory against the Imperial Japanese Navy.
The $100 million budgeted movie is slated to begin production in August, shooting in Hawaii and Canada. Emmerich is serving as producer alongside Harald Kloser (White House Down) and Mark Gordon (The Day After Tomorrow).
Back in February, it was revealed that Emmerich would also be directing the historical epic Maya Lord, although it’s understood that project has now been pushed back in favour of Midway, and will likely go into production in 2019.
