Hereditary’s Ari Aster lines up new horror film

May 12, 2018 by Matt Rodgers

Aside from your usual blockbutser hyperbole, there’s one film this summer that’s generating terrific word-of-mouth, and that’s A24’s terrifying new horror Hereditary. It screens at Sundance London this May, and then hits cinemas in mid-June, but before Ari Aster can scare the bejesus out of you with the Toni Collette chiller, he’s lined up his next project with the studio.

Deadline reports that the untitled project will be their most ambitious film to date, and are currently in the process of casting, with a eye on starting production in late summer of this year.

The plot is being kept a secret, but what we do know is that it will be another horror, one which follows a young woman who reluctantly joins her boyfriend on a summer trip where things quickly go awry.

When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.

Hereditary is set for release on June 8th in the U.S. and June 15th in the U.K.
