According to Variety, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star Kevin Hart is in talks to star in a remake of the 1974 comedy Uptown Saturday Night for Warner Bros. Pictures and Overbrook Entertainment.
The original film starred Sidney Poitier and Bill Cosby as two friends who sneak out to visit a high-class, illegal club, with trouble then ensuing. Will Smith and his Overbrook partner James Lassiter are producing the remake, which at one point the project was being eyed as a starring vehicle for Smith and Denzel Washington.
Kenya Barris (black-ish) has written the most recent draft of the script, and according to Variety, the plan is to secure a director before casting Hart’s co-star. Things are expected to come together quickly, and Hart is looking to shoot the movie before production on the Jumanji sequel gets underway in early 2019.
Hart will next be seen alongside Tiffany Haddish in Night School, which opens in September. Watch the trailer here.
