Sony pulls Silver & Black from release slate, but work on the script continues

June 2, 2018 by Gary Collinson

This probably won’t come as too much of a surprise given that it was reported back in February that the project was on “indefinite” hold, but Sony has now officially announced that it has pulled the planned Spider-Man spinoff Silver & Black from its release schedule.

The film, which has Gina Prince-Bythewood (The Secret Life of Bees) attached to direct and would focus on the characters Silver Sable and the Black Cat, has been scheduled to open on February 8th 2019, becoming Sony’s second Spidey spin-off after October’s Venom movie.

Despite being pulled from Sony’s slate, it seems the project remains very much alive, with Prince-Bythewood stating that Screen Rant that: “The update is just really pounding out the script. It all starts with the script. You gotta have a great script so we want to make sure that’s right before we jump in.”

The last we heard, Sony had brought in Lindsey Beer (Chaos Walking) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel) to work on the screenplay for Silver & Black, which had previously been written by Christopher Yost (Thor: Ragnarok) and Lisa Joy (Westworld).

In addition to Silver & Black, Sony also has Nightwatch and Morbius, the Living Vampire features in the works as part of its Marvel universe.
