THR is reporting that Oscar nominee Mary J. Blige (Mudbound) has signed on to star in Paramount Players’ horror thriller Body Cam, which has been described as a cross between Get Out and End of Watch.
The film marks the feature debut of director Malik Vitthal and follows several LAPD officers who find themselves “haunted by a malevolent spirit that is tied to the murder of a black youth at the hands of two white cops — all of which was caught on a body cam video that was destroyed in a cover-up.”
Blige is set to portray police officer who becomes rocked by visions and begins to investigate the cover-up. It will mark her first topline role after appearances in films such as I Can Do Bad All by Myself, Rock of Ages and Mudbound, the latter of which saw her nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, as well as Best Original Song.
Next up for Blige is Netflix’s TV adaptation of the Gerard Way superhero comic book series The Umbrella Academy, which is slated to hit the streaming service in 2019.
