Back in July of last year, when Joss Whedon was still attached to direct the Batgirl solo movie, a rumoured shortlist of potential candidates for the role of the DC Extended Universe’s Barbara Gordon arrived online.
One of the names said to be in contention was that of Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe star Jane Levy, and – with a Batgirl vacancy currently available for the Birds of Prey movie – the actress has taken to Twitter to admit that she’d be “down” for the role.
cool 🤟🏼 — I’m down

In addition to Levy, the original shortlist was said to have included Elle Fanning (The Neon Demon), Olivia Cooke (Bates Motel), Bella Throne (Shake It Up!), Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why), Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers), Emma Roberts (Scream Queens), Haley Lu Richardson (Split) and Naomi Scott (Power Rangers).
Whether any of those names remain in contention now that Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) is in the director’s chair for Birds of Prey remains to be seen, but with Warner Bros. and DC Films hoping to go into production in late 2018 / early 2019, it shouldn’t be too long before we get an official announcement on the casting.
