Having allegedly met with over 65 candidates, it was reported last month that Marvel Studios had narrowed its director shortlist for the planned Black Widow movie to three candidates in Cate Shortland (Berlin Syndrome), Amma Assante (Belle) and Maggie Betts (Novitiate).
Well, it seems we may be able to add a fourth name to that list now, as Jeff Sneider is claiming that Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don’t Cry, Stop Loss, Carrie) is also in contention to helm the Scarlett Johansson-headlined solo movie.
The long-awaited Black Widow movie appears to be a priority within Marvel Studios, and with Johansson and Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige said to be taking follow-up meetings with directors it may not be long before we get an official announcement on the project.
Jac Schaeffer (The Shower) was brought in earlier this year to pen the script for the movie, which is said to be a prequel exploring Natasha’s origin, and may also feature an appearance by Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier.
