Netflix has given a 10-episode series order to Daybreak, an adaptation of Brian Ralph’s dark zombie comedy graphic novel, Deadline has revealed.
The series has been created by Aron Eli Coleite (Star Trek: Discovery) and Brad Peyton (Rampage) and follows a 17-year old high school student called Josh who is searching for his girlfriend in Glendale, California after a zombie outbreak.
Josh is joined on his quest by “a ragtag group of misfits including a pyromaniac 12-year-old Angelica and Josh’s former high school bully Wesley, now turned pacifist samurai, Josh tries to stay alive amongst the horde of Mad Max-style gangs (evil jocks, cheerleaders turned Amazon warriors), zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.”
Daybreak marks Coleite’s second Netflix series order this week after the streaming service ordered a TV adaptation of Joe Hill’s comic book series Locke & Key. Coleite will serve as showrunner and executive producer on Daybreak, while Peyton is attached to direct and executive produce.
