Todd McFarlane, the creator of the Marvel character Venom, has reflected on the creation of the popular villain.
Venom is, of course, all the rage in 2018 thanks in large part to the Tom Hardy led movie that bears his name. Various trailers and posters have gotten many fans of the iconic Spider-Man villain excited to hopefully see the character done justice on the big screen.
Venom got his start in comics, of course, and creator Todd McFarlane has taken to Instagram to share his thoughts on Venom and why he created him: “This is the page that CREATED Venom!!! If I didn’t like the #classic look of #spiderman so much, Venom would never have existed. Here’s why… When I took over the artwork for the Amazing Spider-Man comic artistically I wanted to draw #Spidey in his red & blue costume…but he was wearing a black costume at the time.
“Marvel said they would bring back the ‘classic’ look in issue #300 if I joined the book (which I did on issue 298). Problem was…what to do with the black costume. So I came up with the alien/monster look and we had a new villain that none of us knew would be such an important character for #Marvel.”

Many fans of the character will be familiar with Venom’s beginnings but for those who aren’t, there’s no question it’s an interesting tale. Are you looking forward to seeing Venom on the big screen?
