Having made a brief appearance in the prologue of Thor: The Dark World, it has been revealed that Thor’s grandfather Bor almost made his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with an appearance in this year’s blockbuster team-up Avengers: Infinity War.
Speaking on the director’s commentary for the Marvel superhero epic, director Joe Russo has revealed that the creative team discussed a number of options as to how Thor could obtain his new weapon Stormbreaker, before finally settling upon the character of Eitri, played by Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage.
“We explored a lot of different ideas of where Thor could go for that weapon,” said Russo. “We even had versions of the story at one time where he was going to visit this sort of ghost of his dead grandfather – which was one version we were playing with that we didn’t end up using. I am happy where we had settled.”
