Developed by Crytek and using their signature Cryengine, Hunt: Showdown was shown off during the episode of Inside Xbox at Gamescom 2018 and you can take a look at a trailer below…
Hunt: Showdown is player versus player (PvP), player versus enemy (PvE) crossbreed game; groups of bounty hunter occupy the same level and have to hunt down creatures leaving breaches in the world. Though every time a player closes a breach the game world shrinks and closes in on the end level boss. It is almost like a Battle Royale game with a twist.
The game has an incredible western feel to the trailer, though being set in a swamp style landscape, all the while maintaining a strong supernatural hunting overtone. The dark colour pallet to the game paints an image of terror and mystery, and I imagine this will be a game where players will be dragged into the adrenaline fuelled hunt.
The news that this title will be coming to Xbox Early Access is very interesting. The Early Access platform can be risky, but having players give live feedback during the development stage is a perfect way for the developers to tweak the game as often as needed. Players are paying for an unfinished game, though it is usually a discounted price to what the full title will be, and those players will also get the full game at release and without paying anything extra.
As yet there’s no word on a release date for the Xbox Early Access version, but the title is available on Steam right now for those PC players keen to get their fix.
