In a reverse La La Land situation, Beauty and the Beast star Emma Watson has signed on to replace Emma Stone in Lady Bird helmer Greta Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women.
Stone, who won an Oscar after replacing Watson in Damien Chazelle’s 2016 musical, has been forced to exit Little Women due to promotional commitments to her new film The Favourite.
Watson joins a star-studded cast that includes Lady Bird stars Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet alongside Meryl Streep (The Post), Laura Dern (Star Wars: The Last Jedi), Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth), Eliza Scanlen (Sharp Objects) and James Norton (McMafia).
Little Women follows the four teenage March sisters Amy, Jo, Beth and Meg and their mother Marmee as they navigate life in Civil War-era Massachusetts while their father is acting as a pastor in the war.
Filming on Little Women is slated to get underway in September ahead of a release on Christmas Day 2019.
