Marvel’s Black Widow movie gets a rumoured synopsis

September 24, 2018 by Gary Collinson

This coming March, Marvel Studios is set to unleash its first female-led superhero blockbuster in the Brie Larson-headlined Captain Marvel, following which Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff is finally going to go solo with her very own Black Widow movie.

As yet, there’s no word as to when we can expect the Black Widow movie, but with Marvel recently hiring Cate Shortland (Lore) to direct, it seems safe to assume that the film will be one of the earlier entries in Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While we await further news, a possible synopsis for the film has arrived online by way of Comic Book, which may or may not be official and is unlikely to contain any surprises for those fans familiar with the character and her backstory:

“At birth the Black Widow (aka Natasha Romanova) is given to the KGB, which grooms her to become its ultimate operative. When the U.S.S.R. breaks up, the government tries to kill her as the action moves to present-day New York, where she is a freelance operative. The standalone film will find Romanoff living in the United States 15 years after the fall of the Soviet Union.”

15 years after the fall of the Soviet Union would place the setting around 2006, some four years prior to the character’s MCU introduction in Iron Man 2, and could presumably detail her recruitment into S.H.I.E.L.D., as well as giving Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg another paycheck.
