After unveiling a first look image of Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby from the upcoming fifth series last week, the BBC has now announced that The Witch and Split star Anya Taylor-Joy has joined the cast of Steven Knight’s crime saga Peaky Blinders. Details on her role are being kept under wraps, but we do have a first look image of the actress in character…
“I could not possibly be more excited to be joining such a talented group of people,” said Taylor-Joy. “I can’t wait to get in and play this character.”
The fifth series of Peaky Blinders “sees the world thrown into turmoil by the financial crash of 1929. Opportunity and misfortune are everywhere. When Tommy, who’s now an MP, is approached by a charismatic politician with a bold vision for Britain, he realizes that his response will affect not just his family’s future but that of the entire nation.”
In addition to Murphy and Taylor-Joy, the cast features Helen McCrory, Paul Anderson, Sophie Rundle, Finn Cole, Kate Phillips, Natasha O’Keefe, Aidan Gillen, Jack Rowan, Charlie Murphy, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Harry Kirton, Packy Lee, Ned Dennehy, Ian Peck and Benjamin Zephaniah.
Taylor-Joy will next be seen reprising her Split role in M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass, and also has the X-Men spinoff The New Mutants slated to arrive in 2019 – assuming it doesn’t get delayed again. Her other upcoming projects include Here Are the Young Men and Weetzie Bat.
