Mike Colter says goodbye to Luke Cage following Netflix cancellation

October 24, 2018 by Amie Cranswick

Last week Netflix announced its second Marvel cancellation of the month, with Luke Cage going the way of Iron Fist and receiving the axe after two seasons on the streaming service.

We’ve already heard from showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker, and now Harlem’s Hero himself Mike Colter has taken to Instagram to respond to the news and offer his thanks to Marvel, Netflix and the fanbase.

“Luke Cage represented something more than just entertainment,” writes Colter. “Marvel’s Luke Cage added to our social commentary and made viewers think by challenging the norm and putting out a character that reflected the everyday hero, one with flaws, strengths and everything in between. I am forever grateful to Marvel and Netflix for letting me portray such a prolific character, and thank the amazing fans. As one door closes, another has opened, with the birth of my 2nd daughter. Born this week. A lot of great memories. Time to make more. Always forward, forward always.”

After clearing his name, Luke Cage has become a celebrity on the streets of Harlem with a reputation as bulletproof as his skin. But being so visible has only increased his need to protect the community and find the limits of who he can and can’t save. With the rise of a formidable new foe, Luke is forced to confront the fine line that separates a hero from a villain.

Luke Cage season 2 features a cast that includes Mike Colter (Luke Cage), Simone Missick (Misty Knight), Rosario Dawson (Claire Temple), Alfre Woodard (Mariah Dillard), Theo Rossi (Shades), Finn Jones (Iron Fist), Jessica Henwick (Colleen Wing), Thomas Q. Jones (Comanche), Gabrielle Dennis (Tilda Johnson), Mustafa Shakir (John McIver/Bushmaster), Reg E. Cathey (James Lucas) and Anabella Sciorra (Rosalie Carbone).
