After tussling with the possessed doll in next year’s spinoff sequel Annabelle 3, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga’s Ed and Lorraine Warren will be returning once again for a third instalment in The Conjuring Universe’s main series, and according to a report from Bloody Disgusting, The Conjuring 3 looks set to shake up the formula a little.
The site reports that the third movie – which is being directed by Michael Chaves (The Curse of La Llorona) – will drop the “family in peril” plot of the first two films and instead focus on a man on trial for murder who claims he was possessed by a demon.
If true, then it certainly sounds like this could be a take on The Devil Made Me Do It Case, where lawyers for Arne Cheyenne Johnson attempted to prove his innocence in a murder trial by claiming denial of personal responsibility due to demonic possession.
As yet there’s no word on a release date for The Conjuring 3, but we do have Annabelle 3 set to arrive on July 3rd 2019.
