Having portrayed the character of Flint Marko / Sandman in 2007’s Spider-Man 3, actor Thomas Haden Church revealed earlier this year that he’d shot a secret role in a comic book movie, and if a report from Discussing Film is accurate, it seems that secret has now been revealed.
According to the site, the film in question is the upcoming Hellboy reboot from Lionsgate, with Church reportedly playing the classic fan favourite Hellboy character Lobster Johnson.
Created by Mike Mignola, Lobster Johnson was a vigilante from the 1930s who operated in secret, and had a reputation for brutality and violence, often killing mobsters and burning his trademark lobster claw symbol into their foreheads. He was killed during a mission against the Nazis in 1939, but returns even more powerful as a ghost, working with Hellboy and the BPRD on a number of missions.
During the New York Comic Con last month, Hellboy actor David Harbour did tease Lobster Johnson’s inclusion in the film, so while this report is unconfirmed, we’d have to assume there’s a good chance the report is legit.
