Grant Morrison’s The Invisibles in development as TV series

November 9, 2018 by Ricky Church

Famed comic book writer Grant Morrison has signed a new deal with Universal Cable Productions to bring more original and content for the television and streaming services. Per The Hollywood Reporter, one of the projects which fall under Morrison’s new deal is a television adaptation of his 90s comic book series The Invisibles.

Set in 2020, The Invisibles follows an elite international cell of occult freedom fighters dedicated to the creation of a better world for everyone — by any means necessary. The comic book was first published in 1994 and ran until 2000, becoming one of DC and Vertigo’s best selling titles.

A network has not yet been chosen to air the upcoming superhero drama. Syfy currently airs Happy!, an adaptation Morrison’s comic series which stars Christopher Meloni and Patton Oswalt and is currently in production for its second season. Morrison is also developing an adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s sci-fi novel Brave New World with Brian Taylor and David Weiner for UPC, Amblin TV and Syfy.

Grant Morrison is known for his groundbreaking runs on comic book series such as Batman, JLA and All-Star Superman. On the graphic novel front, Morrison’s Batman: Arkham Asylum is one of the most successful graphic novels in America with over 600,000 copies sold and was the inspiration for the video game of the same name. He also has written several graphic novels outside the realm of superheroes, such as We3, The Filth and Joe the Barbarian.
