Star Wars series The Mandalorian adds former MMA fighter Gina Carano

November 15, 2018 by Ricky Church

The first Star Wars TV series for Disney+ has found a new addition to join Pedro Pascal (Wonder Woman 1984) in the series, with former MMA fighter and Deadpool star Gina Carano signing on to the live-action show.

Much like Pascal’s lead role and the rest of the series, Carano’s role is being kept under wraps. The only information known for sure is the series is set a few years after the Empire’s fall in Return of the Jedi and follows a lone Mandalorian during the early period of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian has been created and written by Jon Favreau (Iron Man, The Jungle Book) and is being produced for Disney’s upcoming streaming service Disney+. Favreau is producing alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson and Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Rebels creator/showrunner Dave Filoni. Filoni is also set to direct episodes of the series with Taika Waititi, Bruce Dallas Howard, Rick Famuyiwa and Deborah Chow. The official logline reads:

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian is set to premiere on Disney+ next year.
