Although filming on Todd McFarlane’s Spawn reboot has recently been pushed back to the summer of 2019, McFarlane has already cast his two leads in Jamie Foxx as Al Simmons/Spawn and Jeremy Renner as Detective Twitch Williams, while the script for the long-gestating project has been complete for some time now.
We know that McFarlane is planning a hard-R, gritty take on the material, and that he’s opting against an origin story for his classic comic book character, opting instead to put the main focus on Twitch and using Spawn as a “boogeyman” lurking in the background.
Well, thanks to SuperBroMovies, we may now have some plot details for the film, with the site reporting that it will focus on Twitch “after he loses his daughter to gang violence. He then begins his quest for revenge by enlisting the help of his ex-partner Danny to aid in his investigation of the criminal factions in New York. Twitch quickly realizes he’s in over his head as he learns that two of the largest organizations are teaming up to take over the criminal underworld of the city.”
During this investigation, Twitch is visited by Al, “a mysterious man who has knowledge of his daughter’s death. It quickly becomes clear that Al is not who he appears to be as he reveals himself to be Spawn, a messenger from hell who can aid Twitch in his search for justice.”
It’s worth pointing out that these plot details are unconfirmed, but do match up with everything we’ve been hearing about the movie. So, let us know in the comments below what you make about them, and whether you feel its the right approach to put the focus on Renner’s Twitch as opposed to Foxx’s title character…
