As initially reported by Deadline, Daredevil is the next Marvel casualty at Netflix. While the latest season saw rave reviews, this news follows on from the streaming service’s decision to cancel both Iron Fist and Luke Cage just last month.
In a statement to Deadline, the streaming service said this:
“Marvel’s Daredevil will not return for a fourth season on Netflix. We are tremendously proud of the show’s last and final season, and although it’s painful for the fans, we feel it best to close this chapter on a high note. We’re thankful to showrunner Erik Oleson, the show’s writers, stellar crew and an incredible cast including Charlie Cox as Daredevil himself, and we’re grateful to the fans who have supported the show over the years. While the series on Netflix has ended, the three existing seasons will remain on the service for years to come, while the Daredevil character will live on in future projects for Marvel.”
As for what these “future projects” might be, Deadline speculates that a Daredevil series on the Disney+ streaming service is a possibility, as is a movie – although the latter is said to be unlikely.
The cancellation of Daredevil leaves only Jessica Jones and The Punisher as the remaining Marvel properties on Netflix. There’s no report on those shows at this time although one would have to suspect they too will be cancelled once their latest seasons premiere on the streaming service.
