Jane the Virgin may be coming to an end with its upcoming fifth season, but it seems The CW is looking to develop a spinoff, with Variety reporting that writer and co-executive producer Valentina Garza is working on a potential new series.
According to the site, the idea for the spinoff is to produce an anthology series, with each season based upon a fictional novel written by Gina Rodriguez’s Jane Villanueva. Rodriguez will potentially narrate the show, and is also serving as executive producer alongside Garza, Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman and executive producers Ben Silverman and Brad Silberling.
Jane the Virgin premiered in 2014 and follows Rodriguez’s Jane, a religious young virgin who becomes pregnant after being artificially inseminated accidentally. Rodriguez received the Golden Globe for Best Actress – Television Series, Musical or Comedy for her role. The fifth and final season is slated to get underway in 2019.
