Don’t expect to see dinosaurs attacking cities in Jurassic World 3, says Colin Trevorrow

December 18, 2018 by Gary Collinson

As we saw at the end of this year’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the dinosaurs are finally free of the island and running wild around the United States as we head into the third instalment of the Jurassic World trilogy.

However, if you’ve been hoping that means Jurassic World 3 will be taking a leaf out of the Godzilla or Planet of the Apes playbooks, with dinosaurs unleashing unleashing hell upon towns and cities or waging an apocalyptic war against mankind, well you may want to think again.

During an interview with Jurassic Outpost, returning Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow has dashed those hopes, revealing that he’s looking to keep things a little more grounded:

“I just have no idea what would motivate dinosaurs to terrorize a city. They can’t organize. Right now we’ve got lethal predators in wild areas surrounding cities all over the world. They don’t go pack hunting for humans in urban areas. The world I get excited about is the one where it’s possible that a dinosaur might run out in front of your car on a foggy backroad, or invade your campground looking for food. A world where dinosaur interaction is unlikely but possible—the same way we watch out for bears or sharks. We hunt animals, we traffic them, we herd them, we breed them, we invade their territory and pay the price, but we don’t go to war with them. If that was the case, we’d have lost that war a long time ago.”

At this point we have no idea what to expect from Jurassic World 3 (a.k.a. Jurassic Park 6) in terms of plot, but Trevorrow has previously described it as “a science thriller in the same way Jurassic Park was”. And, with the film not slated for release until June 2021, it may be some time before we get any further details.

What would you like to see from Jurassic World 3? Let us know in the comments below…

It’s been four years since theme park and luxury resort Jurassic World was destroyed by dinosaurs out of containment. Isla Nublar now sits abandoned by humans while the surviving dinosaurs fend for themselves in the jungles.

When the island’s dormant volcano begins roaring to life, Owen (Chris Pratt) and Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard) mount a campaign to rescue the remaining dinosaurs from this extinction-level event. Owen is driven to find Blue, his lead raptor who’s still missing in the wild, and Claire has grown a respect for these creatures she now makes her mission. Arriving on the unstable island as lava begins raining down, their expedition uncovers a conspiracy that could return our entire planet to a perilous order not seen since prehistoric times.

With all of the wonder, adventure and thrills synonymous with one of the most popular and successful series in cinema history, this all-new motion-picture event sees the return of favorite characters and dinosaurs—along with new breeds more awe-inspiring and terrifying than ever before. Welcome to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom sees J.A. Bayona directing a cast that includes franchise veterans Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, BD Wong and Jeff Goldblum alongside newcomers Toby Jones (Captain America: The First Avenger), Rafe Spall (Black Mirror), Justice Smith (The Get Down), Ted Levine (Silence of the Lambs), James Cromwell (The Young Pope), Daniella Pineda (The Detour) and Geraldine Chaplin (A Monster Calls).
