Captain Marvel directors compare the film’s vibe to Lethal Weapon

January 9, 2019 by Samuel Brace

Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, the directors of Captain Marvel, have compared the film tonally to movies likes Lethal Weapon.

As with their debut of any new character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there is a lot of hype about the arrival of Captain Marvel. But what can fans expect from the picture in terms of tone when they finally get to see it?

Well, according to the film’s directors, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, Captain Marvel will balance humour and seriousness in a way similar to some old 80s and 90s classics:

“We approached this movie as being, at the heart of it, this mystery of self-identity for Captain Marvel,” Boden explained to Fandango. “It has a lot of playfulness in it, and that kind of buddy-cop vibe that Captain Marvel has with the Nick Fury character was really an important touchstone for us.”

“Yeah. Like the ’80s and ’90s buddy-cop movies, like 48 Hrs. or Lethal Weapon,” Fleck said. “We have some of that. Those movies, even the serious ones, they have a really terrific sense of humor, and we wanted to maintain that as well.”

Do you the like sound of a buddy-cop style Captain Marvel movie that brings the likes of Lethal Weapon to mind? Let us know in the comments below…
