While it seems increasingly unlikely that we’re never going to see the ‘Snyder Cut’ of Justice League or the planned Justice League – Part Two, it turns out that filmmaker Zack Snyder was actually planning a trilogy of films featuring DC’s greatest superheroes, which – when complete – would have delivered a five movie arc from Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Those plans obviously fell by the wayside after Snyder left Justice League, with Joss Whedon then coming on board to put his own stamp on the superhero ensemble and delivering a film that disappointed both critically and commercially, resulting in Warner Bros. overhauling its entire DC Films division.
Speaking on his Fatman on Batman podcast (via Screen Rant), Kevin Smith has been discussing what he knows about Snyder’s original plans for the Justice League trilogy, which would have introduced Darkseid and ultimately ended take us through to the Knightmare scenario we glimpsed in Batman v Superman.

“The first movie was kind of what we saw,” states Smith. “Fighting Steppenwolf. Beating Steppenwolf. Then, like, a fucking Boom Tube opened up, and they saw Darkseid, and Darkseid saw them. There was a mini scuffle or not, depending on who you’re talking to. Boom tube closes, and that’s the end of the fucking movie. With them all knowing there’s something out there, and we have to go.”
Smith then goes on to state that the second movie would have taken things cosmic as the League heads to Apokolips to take the fight to Darkseid, with the Green Lantern Corps also getting in on the action. However, Justice League 2 would have featured a dark ending like Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back and Avengers: Infinity War, as the League are defeated and Darkseid arrives on Earth and “levels it”. The third movie would have then featured “the heroes’ last stand against Darkseid and the forces of Apokolips”.
