THR has revealed that the Heroes in a Half-Shell are heading to Netflix, with Nickelodeon developing a new animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie for the streaming giant.
The movie will be based upon Nickelodeon’s Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the latest TMNT animated series which premiered back in September of last year. This reimagining follows Raphael, Leonardo, Donatello and Michelangelo as they tap into ninja powers they never knew existed as they seek to unlock the mystical secrets of New York City.
Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be produced as part of a two-movie deal between Netflix and Viacom’s Nickelodeon Studios, the other being an animated feature film version of The Loud House, a series revolving around a young boy growing up with ten sisters.
This will be the second animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie after the CG-animated TMNT, which was released theatrically by Warner Bros. in 2007.
In addition to the animated movie, Paramount Pictures and Platinum Dunes are currently developing a live-action movie reboot, which has Andrew Dodge (Bad Words) attached as a screenwriter and could potentially begin production later this year.
