When a film grosses $875 million at the box office and picks up four Academy Awards including Best Actor, there’s a pretty good chance that the suits behind the movie are going to be falling over themselves to get the ball rolling on a sequel, and it seems that may be the case with last year’s Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
Page Six is reporting that Rudi Dolezal, Queen’s frequent music video director, has revealed that a second movie is “being heavily discussed in the Queen family” and producer and band manager Jim Beach is “planning a sequel that starts with Live Aid.”
Queen’s story doesn’t end with Live Aid of course; the band would continue to record and release albums as well as embarking on 1986’s Magic Tour, Freddie Mercury’s last before his death in 1991 of AIDS-related complications. Queen would continue to perform with guest vocalists, as well as tours with Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers and American Idol’s Adam Lambert.
Now, this rumour is unconfirmed, but it isn’t the first hint of a sequel to Bohemian Rhapsody, with guitarist Brian May suggesting back in December that: “I live Live Aid is a good point to leave it. Who knows, there might be a sequel.”

Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, their near-implosion as Mercury’s lifestyle spirals out of control, and their triumphant reunion on the eve of Live Aid, where Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. In the process, cementing the legacy of a band that were always more like a family, and who continue to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.
Bohemian Rhapsody features a cast that includes Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, Ben Hardy as Roger Taylor, Gwilym Lee as Brian May, Joseph Mazzello as John Deacon, Lucy Boynton as Mary Austin, Aaron McCusker as Jim Hutton, Aidan Gillen as John Reid, Tom Hollander as Jim Beach, Allen Leech as Paul Prenter and Mike Myers as Ray Foster.
