Oscar Isaac discusses Poe’s relationship with Leia in Star Wars: Episode IX

March 18, 2019 by Gary Collinson

In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we saw Oscar Isaac’s Poe Dameron learning some tough lessons from General Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher) about what it means to be a leader, and it seems that arc going to continue in this year’s Star Wars: Episode IX.

As we know, Fisher’s Leia will feature in Episode IX thanks to unused footage of the late actress shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and Isaac has revealed to the Tell Me John radio show (via EW) how this will continue the story between the veteran Resistance leader and the hotshot pilot.

“[Fisher] and I worked together so much [on The Last Jedi],” said Isaac. “We would talk about the scenes, and we got very tight during the shooting of that. So it was a beautiful thing to see, and it gets carried over into the new film as well.”

Isaac went on to comment on the process behind incorporating the old footage into Episode IX, adding that he found it very emotional and that “It was definitely an unusual thing, but I also think it was right to engage with her character, and not just let it be something that fades away but can really give it its proper, you know, place of honor.”
