Having premiered at SXSW this month, it has now been confirmed that – as speculated by many fans – the upcoming horror The Curse of La Llorona is actually part of Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema’s The Conjuring Universe.
As reported by Bloody Disgusting, the film features an appearance from Tony Amendola, reprising his role as Father Perez from the first Conjuring spinoff Annabelle.
The Curse of La Llorona becomes the sixth entry in The Conjuring Universe, and it’s perhaps a little surprising that Warner Bros. and New Line haven’t marketed this connection, given the popularity of the series and the fact that it is now the highest-grossing horror franchise of all time.

Next up from The Conjuring Universe post-La Llorona is Annabelle Comes Home, which is set for release in 2019, followed by The Conjuring 3 in 2020. Another spinoff, The Crooked Man, remains in development.
La Llorona. The Weeping Woman. A horrifying apparition, caught between Heaven and Hell, trapped in a terrible fate sealed by her own hand. The mere mention of her name has struck terror around the world for generations. In life, she drowned her children in a jealous rage, throwing herself in the churning river after them as she wept in pain.
Now her tears are eternal. They are lethal, and those who hear her death call in the night are doomed. La Llorona creeps in the shadows and preys on the children, desperate to replace her own. As the centuries have passed, her desire has grown more voracious…and her methods more terrifying.
The Curse of La Llorona is set for release on April 19th.
