The official Twitter account for the Avatar franchise has announced that Australian actor Brendan Cowell (Game of Thrones, The Borgias) has been cast in James Cameron’s Avatar sequels, where he’ll portray the character of Mick Scoresby, the captain of a large-scale marine hunting vessel on Pandora.

Cameron confirmed back in November that he’d wrapped filming the motion capture portions of Avatar 2 and Avatar 3, with filming on the live-action elements due to begin in the Spring. Cowell will reportedly begin shooting his scenes in May in New Zealand.

Avatar 2 will open on December 18th 2020, followed by Avatar 3 on December 17th 2021, Avatar 4 on December 20th 2024 and Avatar 5 on December 19th 2025. Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, CCH Pounder, Matt Gerald, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi and Sigourney Weaver all reprise their roles from the first film, while new additions to the cast include Kate Winslet, Oona Chaplin, Cliff Curtis, Britain Dalton, Filip Geljo, Jamie Flatters, Bailey Bass, Trinity Bliss, Jack Champion, Duane Evans Jr., Edie Falco and Brendan Cowell.
