Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff & D.B.Weiss have joked about being ready for the inevitable backlash they will face when their Star Wars movies are released.
We have known for some time now that David Benioff and D.B.Weiss, the showrunners behind Game of Thrones, will be making a number of Star Wars movies. While the two are preparing for the debut of Game of Thrones‘ final season, they know what is coming their way from Star Wars audiences.
Star Wars fans are among some of the most passionate around with a certain group not being at all shy about voicing their displeasure – just asks The Last Jedi‘s Rian Johnson. David Benioff and D.B.Weiss are prepared to receive the same treatment and joked about the eventuality in a recent interview with EW:
“We feel we’re not quite hated enough by people we don’t know,” Weiss joked.
Benioff then teased: “Our Captain Phasma origin story is going to blow people away,” alluding to their working relationship with Gwendoline Christie on Game of Thrones.
“It’s going to be Gwen’s monologue in the suit,” Weiss jumped in. “The slowest [camera] push-in in movie history into her mask…”

It does, sadly, seem inevitable that there will be a backlash to the next Star Wars movies, no matter who is directing them but at least these two aren’t put off and feel able to joke about it. Hopefully, they can craft something that delights the vast majority of fans.
