The Mandalorian will be released weekly on Disney+

April 20, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Earlier this month it was confirmed that Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian will be one of the original launch series on Disney+ when the streaming service launches this November.

However, if you were looking forward to binging all eight episodes on day one ahead of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker the following month, you may be disappointed to learn that only the first episode will be available on the day of launch, with subsequently episodes arriving weekly.

Given how popular binge watching has become in the age of Netflix, it’s perhaps somewhat surprising that Disney is looking to stick to a traditional release model for The Mandalorian. Whether this will extend to the other original programming from the likes of Star Wars, Marvel and others remains to be seen.

How would you feel about Disney+ adopting a week-to-week release schedule for its original programming? Would you prefer to see it adopting the Netflix model of dropping full seasons at a time? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below or on our social media channels…

After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The Mandalorian sees Pedro Pascal (Game of Thrones) leading a cast that includes Gina Carano (Deadpool), Carl Weathers (Rocky), Nick Nolte (Afflication), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad), Emily Swallow (Supernatural), Omid Abtahi (American Gods), Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) and Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man).
