Tabloid rumours of Coleman’s departure from the show have arisen on a seemingly annual basis, with the latest arising earlier this week.
Whilst it is unknown whether Coleman is indeed leaving to play the lead in ITV’s big budget drama Victoria, about the 19th century monarch, the BBC has confirmed her departure from Doctor Who.
It seems that a stopped clock is indeed right twice a day.
Coleman has portrayed Clara since 2012 episode Asylum of the Daleks, working with both Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi in the lead role.
The ninth series of Doctor Who begins tomorrow with The Magician’s Apprentice, written by showrunner Steven Moffat.
