Back in February it was announced that Nickelodeon and CBS Television Studios are joining forces for an animated Star Trek TV series, and now thanks to the official Star Trek site, we’ve got the first details on this new project.
The CG animated series is being developed by Dan and Kevin Hageman (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark) and will follow a group of lawless teens who discover a derelict Starfleet ship and use it to search for adventure, meaning and salvation.
“Star Trek, Nickelodeon, and the state of animation are doing incredibly ambitious things as of late,” said Dan and Kevin Hageman. “We couldn’t be more excited to jump aboard.”
“Star Trek’s mission is to inspire generations of dreamers to build a brighter future,” added Alex Kurtzman, who is spearheading CBS’ new Star Trek push. “Dan and Kevin have crafted a story that honors its exploratory spirit in a way that’s never been done before, while the Nickelodeon team blew us away with their excitement at bringing Trek to a younger generation around the world.”
In addition to this as-yet-untitled series, CBS also has the animated comedy series Star Trek: Lower Decks in development, while its other current Trek projects include Star Trek: Discovery, the untitled Jean-Luc Picard series (which has just started shooting), and a Section 31 spinoff.
