Although its a certainly no question that it’s a classic scene, it’s also fair to say that the duel between Ben Kenobi and his fallen Padawan Darth Vader on the Death Star in 1977’s Star Wars doesn’t quite manage to live up to subsequent lightsaber duels in the saga in terms of intensity and choreography, coming off more as a friendly spot of fencing practice as opposed to a fight to the death between two highly skilled and fiercely bitter enemies.
With that in mind, Star Wars fan and VFX supervisor Christopher Clements has decided to put together a modern “reimagining” of the Death Star duel using Deep Fake technology. The fan-made video – titled Scene 38 Reimagined – is intercut with genuine footage from A New Hope, and runs for a little over six minutes. The results are impressive… most impressive. See for yourself here…
“Scene 38 Reimagined is about the final confrontation between Ben Kenobi & Darth Vader in A New Hope nearly 20 years after the events of Revenge Of The Sith. This is a one-off story driven scene reflecting the characters in its chronological order from the point of Revenge of the Siththrough Rebels, Rogue One, and all canon material leading to A New Hope.”
