Although it went largely unnoticed at the box office (for a Star Wars movie, anyway), the reaction from fans and critics to last year’s Solo: A Star Wars Story was mostly positive, so much so that a fan campaign calling for a sequel managed to pick up quite a bit of steam on social media earlier this week.
Fans took to Twitter to try and persuade Disney and Lucasfilm to further explore the adventures of Alden Ehrenrich’s Han Solo by sharing their love for the Anthology movie using the hashtag #MakeSolo2Happen, with co-writer Jonathan Kasdan subsequently posting to share his gratitude.
“Beyond grateful and galvanized by the #MakeSolo2Happen energy on Twitter today,” wrote Kasdan. “Means so much to everyone involved and your enthusiasm makes it possible for us to keep advocating for it! ‘Cause, the Maker knows, there’s a WAR story set in a Galaxy Far Far Away that’s yet to be told.”

Solo only managed to gross $393 million at the worldwide box office (the lowest for any Star Wars movie save for the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars) from a budget that reportedly ballooned to around $300 million after a troubled production which saw Ron Howard taking over from original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller and reshooting much of the film.
Sadly, considering that the poor performance of Solo led Disney and Lucasfilm to put the breaks on any future spinoff plans, and shift to a bi-annual release pattern for subsequent Star Wars movies, one would have to assume that the chances of #MakeSolo2Happen succeeding are very slim indeed. That being said, it’s certainly not beyond the realm of possibility for the characters to pop up again in some form, perhaps as part of one of Lucasfilm’s live-action TV shows on Disney+?
Maybe there’s still a chance to save Han…
